Beginners Guide – Back to Basics Part 2.
Finding a product to promote.

By James

By now you should have your domain name and your hosting set up. If not go back and read Beginners Guide – Back to Basics Part 1

Next step is – Find a Product to Sell

There have been books written about this subject alone. There are so many affiliate programs to work with that even choosing the right site to work with can get confusing so to keep this simple I am going to start with just the one.

CLICKBANK

Getting started with Clickbank is very easy and you will find all sorts of ebook or software products to promote it is down to the ease of use that so many product owners (vedors as Clickbank call them) choose to put their product in the Clickbank marketplace for affiliates to sell. Clickbank also pay on time every time which is the most important thing.

There is no fuss with Clickbank and you do not have to worry about the credit card processing or any such thing you just have to get the right customers to the right sales page and they handle the whole order process. You can find products to promote that can get you up to 75% of the commission for every sale generated.

Simply click the Clickbank.com hit the sign up button enter your details they will send you a confirmation link with a password that you have to enter and that is that.

Head over to the marketplace by hitting the link at the top and find a product to promote.

Choosing a product to promote

Choosing a product to promote is simple, choosing a good product is not so simple.
When choosing a product there is a few things to take note of

$/sale: Simply how much you will earn per sale

Future $: Amount of future earnings for say a recurring membership or upsell

Total $/sale: total you will earn with upsell included

%/sale: what percent of the sale price you will earn

%refd: Percentage of sale that have been made by affiliates

grav: How many affiliates are promoting the product

Now you might think that finding a product to sell that has a low gravity to promote would be a good thing as there will be less competition but, usually low gravity means that it is not a good seller.
Things to look out for

The first thing you need to do before deciding on whether to promote a product is take a good look at the pitch page.

Does the title strike you and make you want to read on?? If not chances are others will feel the same. If you don’t want read what’s on the page after reading the title why would anyone else?

If it’s in the make money market, does it have proof of earning and if so does it look real. There have been more and more cases of sales pages using faked proof of earnings but you can usually tell by the look of the whole page. Quite a lot of sales pages have started using video to prove earnings such as them showing the sales as they login to an affiliate account, these are good signs.

Payment options, now you may think this is simple but some people have been known to not only put a Clickbank sales link but also another form of payment such as PayPal and in doing so taking all the payment from your work but if you hit the clickbank order link and there is also an option for PayPal that is fine. CHECK THIS WITH A HOPLINK WITH YOUR ID IN -> If they have an optin form as most do these days, sign up to it and make sure you stay on the same page after opting in. I have found on more than one occasion that I have been refreshed onto a page with a different referral link, also check the mail you receive and make sure that the links in the emails have your id on the order page.

Just realised I have not told you how to check your links are working yet duh..

To check your links are working and to create links watch the video below.
My first camtasia video so go easy on me. I think I need to clean my comp up it sounded like it was going to blow up running it. I put the video on youtube but quality was not great so I will upload another version later for better viewing.
